Clare Derry
Clare's favourite school subject
was Science, something that was taught very differently in the 50s. She listed
astronomy as one of her main hobbies, but has wider interests. She was in her
element in our Biology lessons, especially during the dissections of a rat and
an eye that she carried out, and was very proud to tell everyone that she didn't
throw up in the process!
In
the run-up to the exams Clare was waking up at 5am each morning in order to
revise; she is a committed character who will, one day, fulfil her lifetime
ambition which is to pursue a career in Science in the USA.
Something that didn't go
unnoticed at Kings was Clare's talent for performing. Her main interests were
singing and acting, and she proved herself alongside Freddie Hutchins in the
school's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream when she delivered a
breathtaking main role performance on Visitor's Day. She also reduced Matron to
tears one morning in assembly when she sang for everyone in Welsh.
"Run down" is how Clare
described how she felt during the term, due to the sheer amount of work
received. She now empathises with her grandparents on the subject! She may have
been small but Clare had a huge personality, which was bursting with talent and
potential.
